About us
Donosti Lindy Hop Dance and Culture Association (DLHDKE in its acronym in Basque) is a non-profit association created in 2015 by and for Lindy Hop dancers of Donostia.
Our goal is to foster, promote and carry out different activities related to Lindy Hop and the so-called Swing or Vintage Jazz Dances (Charleston, Authentic Jazz, Balboa, Blues, Tap dance…), as well as to spread the music and dance associated with Classical Jazz and other related styles (Ragtime, Dixieland, Swing, Blues, R&B).
With this purpose, we organize different activities, such as weekly social dances, outdoor dances, parties, workshops and of course, our fabulous “Donosti Belle Swing” festival.
¿What is the Lindy Hop?
Lindy Hop is a social dance of African American origin and was described as the “national dance” of the United States by Life magazine in 1943.
Related to other Swing dances such as Blues, Balboa, Charleston, Shag or Tap dancing, that primal Lindy Hop dance became popular in such legendary venues as the Savoy in Harlem, New York, during the 1930’s, thanks to dancers like “Shorty” George Snowden, Frankie Manning and Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers, among others.
Because of its dynamic, fun and spectacular style, Lindy Hop dance has been traditionally identified in the collective imagination with the “roaring '20s and '30s” of the twentieth century. As you will see in this video, today the Lindy Hop is reliving its glory days, thanks to the love and passion of thousands of lindy hoppers from all over the planet.
